Component Engineer

Description:

• Work with HW design engineers, manufacturing and purchasing in the selection and application of components.
• Perform analysis of component performance, quality and reliability.
• Work closely with the supply base to complete qualification, process audit and change notification activities.
• Support sustaining activities related to manufacturing needs.
• Perform technical risk assessments of all component types and identify risk mitigation strategies.
• Assess component performance over environmental conditions and to de-rating requirements.
• Evaluate component suppliers' qualification process and criteria. Analyze the results to determine if components meet Starent's quality and reliability requirements.
• Advise design and manufacturing on the suitability of selected components for their application and recommend alternatives when appropriate.
• Participate in design reviews and provide input.
• ROHS 5/6 and 6/6 (Lead Free) component knowledge.
• Review component mechanical criteria of components to ensure proper fit.

Qualifications:

Experience:
• RoHS 5/6 and 6/6 Knowldege and Experience
• Basic understanding of second sourcing and cost reductions without impacting manufacturing, design and performance.
• Knowledge of component selection, evaluation and qualification methods for all component types.
• Extensive experience as a component engineer working in a fast paced high tech enviorment.
• Must be able to work independently on projects with minimal guidance.
 
Skills:
•Working knowledge of Electrostatic Discharge in handling Integrated Circuits (ESD)
• Basic understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management System and Process controls
• Ability to adapt quickly and effectively to changing workload and business pressures
• Excellent written, verbal communication and prioritizing skills
• Must be proficient in all Microsoft software applications, e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point
• Agile knowledge and some Oracle or MRP system knowledge a plus.
• Ability to read mechanical assembly drawings
• Strong self motivation and initiative
 
Education: BSEE or equivalent Minimum 5 years of related work experience in component management
