Unix Backup/Storage Administrator

Description:

The Backup Administrator is responsible for assisting in managing daily system backups/restore operations for Coremetrics, the leading provider of web analytics solutions. This includes day-to-day monitoring of backups, failures, rescheduling and restores for a 300+ node environment consisting of Linux and Solaris servers. The Backup Adminstrator will also participate in an on-call rotation schedule, as the Coremetrics Operations team provides 7x24x365 support for the customer-facing aspects of its service. Direct Reports: The Systems Administrator will not have any direct reports. * These responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Experience in a medium-large scale Symantec/Veritas Netbackup Environment. * Ability to work effectively as a team member in a fast paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment; must be able to mutli-task. * Requires basic knowledge and techniques used in system administration plus knowledge of and ability to use relevant hardware, software and other equipment. * Manage and monitor daily backups, reschedule failed jobs and perform recovery operations. * Must be able to respond to, identify, isolate and resolve issues related to the backup environment. * Configure and maintain Netbackup Master/Media servers. * Assist with vaulting/offsite tape management.

Qualifications:

The Backup Administrator must have: * Experience with Symantec/Veritas Netbackup or other Enterprise backup/recovery products such as Legato Networker in a SAN based backup environment. * Must have experience with Unix, Linux (RedHat) and Solaris operating systems. * Knowledge of Storage Area Networks (SAN) including Fibre Channel Directors/Switches preferred. (Sun/StorageTek, CISCO MDS 9000 series) * Experience with Symantec/Veritas Volume manager (VxVM) or understanding of Logical Volume Managers extremely helpful. * Experience with Oracle on Linux and/or Solaris is a plus. * Must have exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills in order to communicate with a wide range of internal and external customers. * Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems strongly preferred.
