Director, Business DevelopmentDescription:The charter of the Director, Business Development position centers on the execution and market development in emerging markets. This is a new role within the company and will be reporting directly to the VP, Marketing & Business Development. Key responsibilities of this position are outlined below:
- The Director of Business Development, in conjunction with the VP, Marketing & Business Development, will serve as a key force behind developing, managing and executing the company’s growing business through pro-active market evaluation and assistance on transactions including technology alliances, development and out-licensing partnerships, distribution agreements, and acquisitions. Through directed market evaluation, the initial foci will be in four major areas: (1) identify potential acquisitions for our core business; (2) identify technologies to in-license that will leverage the strengths of our core business; (3) identify out-licensing opportunities in the therapeutic area; and (4) identify major biochemical development opportunities for Codon to exploit on our own.
- Evaluate strategies to expand the Company by exploiting our core technologies and R&D efforts that are focused on emerging technologies.
- In conjunction with senior management, create business development plan, targets, and achieve financial goals. Develop revenue forecasts for business development activities.
- Lead cross-functional teams to develop and close targeted business transactions including, but not limited to, legal review, licensing, operations, marketing, R&D, etc. Responsible for drafting terms and conditions, deal sheets, and negotiation strategy.
- Work with VP, Marketing and Business Development, to lead processes for identifying and evaluating attractive external business development opportunities that align with our strategies. Perform targeted analyses and research for business development opportunities.
- Conduct competitive intelligence analyses on existing and emerging products.
- Lead and participate in the preparation of proposals to obtain contract and grant funding.
- Work with the sales team to leverage existing resources to effectively source business opportunities.
Qualifications:- Demonstrated record of excellence in advancing technology via joint ventures, strategic alliances, and closing deals with top decision makers.
- Requires an advanced degree in any life science, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA strongly preferred.
- Proven professional with in/out licensing skills and strong hands-on contract negotiation abilities with global experience in the life sciences.
- Requires a minimum of 10 years of business development experience, including identification and validation of strategic business opportunities in the life sciences field, as well as the proven ability to bring business transactions to closure.
- Outstanding communication, team-building, and planning skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with excellent organizational abilities and presentation skills.
- Experience and/or interest in projects across the interfaces of Biochemistry, Biology, Bioengineering and Manufacturing.
- Able to strategically assess deals and also perform detailed day-to-day tasks required to drive deals to conclusion.
- Entrepreneurial spirit with unwavering focus on execution.
- Demonstrated ability to listen to customers' needs, develop solutions to meet their requirements, trust and respect.
- Strong strategic planning and business market intelligence capabilities
- Ability to combine knowledge of emerging technologies with broader organizational awareness, assimilate knowledge of company technology products, applications, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Capability to quickly grasp new technological concepts and convey their value to clients.
