John is a Managing Director based in Highland’s Shanghai office pursuing investment opportunities in the Internet and media sectors. With more than 13 years of combined experiences in venture capital, start up operations, and investment banking, John brings to Highland his expertise of growing market-leading companies in China.

Background

Prior to joining Highland, John was a Director with Intel Capital China.  In this capacity he led investments in the social networking site 51.com; media companies DAC and Adsit Media/BaiduTV; and the TV shopping company LuckyPai.

Previously, John was the Asia-based Partner for Crystal Ventures where he co-led investments in PowerBridge Technology and SMIC (NYSE: SMI). He was also a founding employee and VP of Corporate Development at Rebound.com, a B2B exchange for excess inventory.

Earlier in his career, John was at San Francisco headquarters of Walden International where he was actively involved in the investments of About.com (NASDAQ:BOUT), LookSmart (NASDAQ: LOOK), and Sina Corp (NASDAQ: SINA). Prior to becoming a venture capitalist, John was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley in New York and Hong Kong.
