Leading regional supermarket operator supports its workforce with smart solution to rising health care costs
Minneapolis, MN - January 8, 2009 - RedBrick Health, an independent health services company that is leading the transition from employer-sponsored health care to Consumer-Owned Health, today announces the expansion of its pilot program with Hannaford Bros. Co.
On January 1, 2009, RedBrick Health expanded its services from 2,400 to 18,000 benefit-eligible associates and dependents at Hannaford Bros., a leading supermarket operator with 167 stores in the Northeast. RedBrick Health is offering its full suite of health and wellness services, including telephonic, online and custom coaching programs, to help associates experience all the rewards of better health. RedBrick Health is also providing health plan selection support to all 14,000 Hannaford Bros. associates eligible for the company's health plans this coming year.
Building out the initial program, which started in June 2008, will help to motivate Hannaford associates to change unhealthy individual behaviors and reward them for doing so. Hannaford Bros. selected RedBrick Health as its partner, to reduce health care costs and engage its associates in being a healthier, happier, more productive workforce. In this role, RedBrick Health provides a fully integrated set of services that make it easy for Hannaford associates to:
Understand their own current level of health through robust assessment and screening tools
Use those results to create a Personal HealthMapSM that helps them engage in tailored health programs
Earn financial rewards for their engagement
Gain a better understanding of the health care systems, including choosing a health plan, through independent advocacy
"We are dedicated to ensuring that our associates have the support and tools needed to live healthy lifestyles," said Peter Hayes, director of associate health and wellness for Hannaford Bros. "The successful implementation of the pilot program, along with the enthusiasm seen among our staff, moved us to expand ahead of schedule. We're excited to keep this momentum going, as we continue to encourage our associates to live healthy lives."
Based on the success of this rollout, Hannaford will be considering additional expansion opportunities, including offering RedBrick Health services to their remaining 18,000 associates not currently enrolled in a health plan offered by Hannaford.
"Hannaford is ranked among the best employers nationally for supporting healthy lifestyles among its associates," said RedBrick Health CEO Kyle Rolfing. "The company is now taking that commitment to the next level. We look forward to a long-term partnership with Hannaford that will not only foster better relationships and better lives for their associates, but also begin to change the financial underpinning of how employers and associates share the cost of health care coverage."
