Elazer is an advisor to Highland specializing in medical technology. In this capacity, Elazer works with the healthcare team to identify and evaluate new opportunities at the cutting edge of science and medicine.

Background
In addition to his role at Highland, Elazer is the Thomas D. and Virginia W. Cabot Professor of Health Sciences and Technology at MIT and a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is a Senior Physician at the Brigham and Women's Hospital where he serves as an attending cardiologist in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. He directs the Harvard-MIT Biomedical Engineering Center and runs the Edelman Laboratory, an integrated physiology research laboratory. Elazer performed his graduate work on regulated and controlled drug delivery systems under Professor Robert Langer at MIT. He completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine and Brigham and Women's Hospital and spent six years as a research fellow in the Department of Pathology at Harvard Medical School under Professor Morris J. Karnovsky.

Elazer's research melds his clinical and medical training and interests, focusing on understanding how tissue architecture and biochemical regulation contribute to local growth control. He and his laboratory have pioneered basic findings in vascular biology including research on antisense oligonucleotides, HDL receptor biology and tissue engineered endothelial implants. Many of his findings are now in clinical trial validation.

Interests
As an avid ice hockey goalie, Dr. Edelman's most recent accomplishment involves passing three levels of coaching licensure from the Massachusetts Youth Hockey league and coaching the Brookline Bantam B team.
