Desktone's Paul Gaffney is Named to CIO Magazine's Hall of Fame

Induction Honors Gaffney's Wide-Ranging Industry Contributions and Role as Virtualization Innovator

September 5, 2007 – Chelmsford, MA – Desktone, Inc., a leader in simplifying IT through innovative virtual desktop technology, is pleased to announce that Paul Gaffney, the company's Chief Operating Officer, has been named to CIO Magazine's CIO Hall of Fame. Based on industry nominations, CIO Magazine selected twenty honorees in recognition of their significant contributions to and profound influence on the IT discipline.

According to Abbie Lundberg, editor-in-chief of CIO Magazine, "As we celebrate 20 years of providing IT executives with the strategies and best practices to perform their jobs effectively, it makes sense to honor the elite CIOs who have been pioneers in breaking new ground in the use of technology in business."

"I'm honored to be inducted into this prestigious hall of fame, and am humbled to be in the company of such notable technology executives," said Paul Gaffney. "I have worked throughout my career to make a strategic difference through the innovative use of technology. That goal has been and continues to be a highly rewarding challenge. I am thankful that, through the efforts of many wonderful people I've worked with, we have succeeded in making a profound difference for several of the world's best companies. It's thrilling to be on the cutting edge of technology innovations, most recently the exciting IT transformation we are enabling here at Desktone."

Gaffney joined Desktone soon after the company's inception in 2006 to address market needs for easy-to-implement, low-maintenance enterprise desktops. Desktone delivers the industry's first massively-scalable virtual desktop platform that integrates all virtualization layers – including storage, applications, client devices, servers, processing and network technologies – and enables them to be managed from a single console. The company removes the barriers to enterprise-wide adoption of desktop virtualization by simplifying deployment of integrated desktop technologies; ensuring reliable, high performance for end-users; significantly improving IT asset utilization in the data center; and dramatically reducing the cost and complexity of virtual desktop infrastructures.

Gaffney is a versatile technology and operations executive who has created substantial value at some of the world's most admired companies. As Desktone's Chief Operating Officer, Gaffney leverages his 20-plus years of experience in business transformation through technology innovation and process improvement. He leads all product and technology development, as well as support operations.

Gaffney has a notable track record, including Executive Vice President of Supply Chain and CIO at Staples, where he transformed the supply chain into a lean, synchronized operation that delivered materially better sales and margin results. Gaffney also pioneered Office Depot's Internet business, turning his initial idea of integrated multi-channel Internet commerce into a platform for a multi-billion-dollar eCommerce giant. After leaving Office Depot, Gaffney continued to innovate in information technology. He built Website Pros., which provides small businesses the web development services previously only available to large companies. After raising almost $65 million in venture financing, he launched the company that now trades on the NASDAQ (WSPI). In several executive positions at Charles Schwab, Gaffney played key technology leadership roles in automating mutual fund trading, building the systems platform for schwab.com, and delivering advanced trading technology to Schwab's active trader clients.
