London, England - June 5, 2009 - Autoquake.com (www.autoquake.com) today announced that former president of Expedia Europe Dermot Halpin has joined the Autoquake.com board of directors. Whilst at Expedia, Halpin had overall responsibility for the Expedia Europe businesses which included Expedia, Hotels.com and Expedia Private Label.
"Expedia harnessed the power of the internet to help customers to buy travel in a new and completely transparent way. By enabling consumers to get better value, we were able to change the shape of an industry. Autoquake.com's unique model uses the convenience and transparency of the internet to help people find and buy high quality used cars at low prices, in a secure and trustworthy way. I'm very pleased to be working with the excellent team at Autoquake.com and to use my experience to help them as they transform how people everywhere buy used cars"
Irishman Dermot Halpin is also non-executive Chairman and Board Director of Imagini, a UK company that has developed a new profiling technology that is used by both online advertisers and publishers to gain insight into their users. Before Expedia, Halpin held several senior positions within Tele2, a Swedish telecoms operator. He holds an MBA from INSEAD and studied Engineering at University College Dublin, Ireland.
“I am delighted to welcome Dermot Halpin to Autoquake.com’s board of directors. His experience of ‘having done it before’ will be very valuable as we move forward to expand our operations and continue to refine our ecommerce platform” commented Garry Hobson, CEO of Autoquake.com.
Autoquake announced a second round of venture capital funding last month of £4 million by Accel Partners and Highland Capital Partners. The financing is in addition to the £10 million already raised and will allow Autoquake.com to continue the meteoric growth of its UK operations, service offerings, technology platform and brand. It will also provide Autoquake.com with capital for its planned international expansion.
This success has been driven by Autoquake.com’s user-friendly customer experience and innovative ecommerce platform and that allows cars to be processed with factory like efficiency and to be sold in a fraction of the time that cars remain on traditional dealer forecourts. As a result, Autoquake.com is able to offer car buyers discounts of on average 10% compared to traditional dealers and car supermarkets whilst still providing substantially higher returns to the fleet companies that supply the cars. In recent months Autoquake.com has picked up a number of awards including the Automotive Management Award for the Autoquake.com website, the coveted Hitwise Top 10 Website Award and the 2009 Fleet World Internet Award.
The Autoquake.com website currently has 300,000 unique monthly visitors viewing 4,000,000 page views per month. The company is on track to sell 15,000 cars in 2009, which is a 200% increase in sales from 2008.
