Networks, Corp. (NASDAQ:STAR), a leading provider of infrastructure
solutions that enable mobile operators to deliver multimedia services,
today announced KDDI, one of the largest Japanese operators, is
deploying its Security Gateway to provide Wi-Fi service for their
growing subscriber base. KDDI’s ‘Wi-Fi WIN’ service provides secure and
easy Internet access for cellular handsets, via wireless LAN and fixed
broadband lines.
Starent’s Security Gateway provides KDDI with a secure entry point into
their core network. This function leverages the high-performance and
distributed architecture capabilities of Starent Networks’ market
leading ST40™ multimedia core platform. Additionally, with Starent’s
Home Agent (HA) in the network, KDDI subscribers can benefit from
service experiences as they roam between un-secure Wi-Fi networks and
secure EV-DO networks.
“Having worked with KDDI for the past five years, we have seen first
hand their commitment to customers and to innovation by providing
advanced and diverse services offerings,” said Ashraf Dahod, president
and chief executive officer for Starent Networks. “Our multimedia core
solutions are designed specifically for mobile broadband and as a
result, are well suited for high-demand networks like KDDI’s.”
