ExaGrid Solution Speeds Backups and Restores, and Improves Retention of Vital Business Information
Westborough, - Mass. September 22, 2009 - ExaGrid Systems, Inc. (http://www.exagrid.com), the leader in cost-effective and scalable disk-based backup solutions with data deduplication, today announced that Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, has chosen the ExaGrid disk-based backup system with data deduplication to improve the company’s ability to back up, retain and retrieve critical business data.
Kingston, which offers consumers more than 2,000 memory products that support nearly every device that uses memory, had an internal mandate to retain email data on disk for a year, and selected the ExaGrid system based on scalability, cost-effectiveness and its post-process approach to data deduplication. The ExaGrid system works seamlessly with the company’s existing backup application, Symantec’s Backup Exec™.
"We compared the ExaGrid system to other products on the market and found that ExaGrid was more cost-effective and scalable," said Tran Phan, senior network administrator at Kingston. "We liked the faster performance of ExaGrid’s post-process deduplication approach over the inline approach used by other vendors. The ExaGrid system is also modular and can scale easily to meet our needs in the future."
ExaGrid combines last backup compression along with data deduplication, which only stores changes from backup to backup instead of storing full file copies. This unique approach reduces the disk space required by a range of 10:1 to 50:1 or more, delivering unparalleled cost savings and performance. ExaGrid delivers extremely fast backup speeds because data is written directly to disk, and data deduplication is performed post-process after the data is initially captured.
"At ExaGrid we pride ourselves on providing the fastest, most scalable backup for our mid-market and small enterprise customers like Kingston Technology," said Bill Andrews, president and CEO of ExaGrid Systems. "Results like those illustrated by Kingston are further proof that ExaGrid delivers the highest performance product at the best price with industry-leading customer support."
ExaGrid’s GRID computing software makes the system highly scalable. When plugged into a switch, different sized configurations can be mixed and matched into a GRID system with capacities of up to a 60TB full backup plus retention. When virtualized, they appear as a single system to the backup server, and load balancing of all data across servers is automatic. The ExaGrid system is packaged as a plug-and-play appliance that easily integrates with existing backup environments.
