Trupanion provides health insurance for pets. Founded in Canada in 1999, the company expanded into the U.S. marketplace in 2008. Unlike most companies in the sector, Trupanion is vertically integrated and is self-underwritten by the American Pet Insurance Company, allowing the company to offer one simple plan that covers everything, including accidents, illnesses, medications, and lab work. Trupanion also offers customizable deductibles so consumers can afford to insure their pets no matter the budget, and pays 90% of actual veterinary bills, with no hidden fees, no ‘reasonable costs’, and no payout limits.
